Time For Every Season

Color is the element that breathes life into a space. The colors of a painting can tie a room together or make a statement on a wall. Color reflects mood and introduces personality. To an artist - specific colors are included in a piece with intention. Whether the purpose of color in a piece is to represent the natural world or it is used to do the opposite - each hue is deliberate. Spending time in the high country makes the impact of color increasingly measurable. From the vibrant blue of the rolling hills to the earthy green of the trees; color encompasses every aspect of life in the mountains.

Nestled in the heart of the High Country, The Art Cellar Gallery is surrounded by natural beauty. Much of the art displayed on the gallery walls reflects the majestic landscape both realistically and abstracted. One notable artist inspired by nature is Carolyn Blaylock.

Carolyn creates, what she calls, organic abstracts. Organic abstracts are abstract representations of nature characterized by round, wavy brush strokes. The free-flowing style allows for unpredictable portrayals of the natural world. “It’s a balance of chaos and order, light and dark, bold and soft,” Carolyn explains. “I want to make every color memorable, every brush stroke compelling. My goal is to connect with the viewer's soul through abstracts that hint of water, flora, fauna and light. The paintings express my enthusiasm for life, and the wonder I find in creation, rather than an intentional description of nature. I create loosely and energetically like a ballerina with paint. I don't start with an agenda; instead I move freely to the dance of the painting, finding structures and story, purpose and play, and rhythm and balance.”

The dance that Carolyn refers to is evident in her bold expressive strokes and lively palette. Because the natural scenery is abstracted in her paintings, color is the main indication of an organic subject. If you are looking to add life through color into any space, Carolyn’s work is a must-see.
